Women on Islands, Leaders of Sustainable Tourism

July 9th

10:00 – 11:15am

Although islands represent only 5% of the earth’s surface, they are home to 20% of terrestrial species and 600 million people depend on their ecosystem services for their sustainable development. The islands are exceptional territories also for their cultural heritage. Islands can be leaders and a source of inspiration to bring social and environmental change at the global level. The project aims to encourage a more resilient and diversified tourism, of which women can be important drivers. SMILO hence funded pioneer pilot solutions on 4 small islands in Lastovo (Croatia), Kerkennah (Tunisia), Paros (Greece) and Brownsea (UK) that promote island women’s leading role in the field of sustainable tourism. Don’t miss the opportunity to join the webinar to learn more about these inspiring solutions, on July 9, 2021 from 10am to 11.15am CET. The island of Culatra (Portugal) will join the conversation to share their personal insight on how they’re fostering sustainable tourism on their island.
