Series : Blue Carbon

Episode 1 : Blue carbon market

June 20th

4:00pm (UTC+2)

Marine and coastal ecosystems are true carbon sinks, with a capacity to store carbon four times greater than that of terrestrial forests. Mangroves, seagrass beds and coastal marshes provide numerous benefits for all living things. Protecting and restoring these ecosystems could therefore be very effective in our fight against climate change. But how can these projects be financed? The blue carbon credit market could represent an interesting solution, which we will explore in these two webinars. The first episode in this series aims to provide a general understanding of the blue carbon market and the ecosystems on which it is based. Why is this market expanding? How does it work? How effective are ecosystems at storing blue carbon? How can the protection of blue carbon ecosystems be financed?
