Cruise & Biodiversity

September 8th

10:00 – 12:00am

The environmental impact of cruises is more than ever at the heart of the concerns and actions of the companies. Criticism of cruise lines has prompted them to react and to invest in minimizing their ecological footprint. In addition to the reduction of atmospheric emissions, encouraged by the sector’s energy transition, shipowners have taken up the challenge of biodiversity. These issues go beyond the scope of the port and concern navigation, life on board, relations with destinations and CSR policy. The Covid crisis has led to a rethinking of the way in which host territories are visited, in order to prevent pressure on certain fragile sites and to bring out new forms of regulation that are favorable to biodiversity. It seems relevant to accentuate the partnership between the companies and the representatives of the cruise destination territories: managers of natural areas, NGOs, institutions, etc. Several approaches already partially promote biodiversity initiatives: SAILS charter, Green Marine program, etc. This workshop aims to identify other levers of action to consider future commitments common to the companies. Working languages: French and English
