The dune against the atom

Sigaud Yoakim

This audio documentary looks back at the citizen mobilization in Erdeven (Morbihan, southern Bretagne, France) in the 1970s, when the population opposed a nuclear power plant project on the Brittany coast.

SYNOPSIS

In 1974, the town of Erdeven, on the southern coast of Bretagne, was at the center of a project to build a nuclear power plant on its territory. But the population quickly mobilized and opposed the project. Public meetings, festive gatherings, scientific debates: a popular struggle took shape, based above all on citizen information. This audio documentary gives voice to this mobilization through the testimonies of those who led it, 50 years after the events.

BIOGRAPHY

After studying journalism and public communication, I now work as a communications officer for a community of municipalities near Toulouse. At the same time, I produce audio documentaries. My approach is immersive, sensitive, and rooted in the field. What drives me is documenting social change and exploring the memory of territories. My contribution to the “Echoes of the Shores” award is fully in line with this approach. Through my documentary Erdeven 1975 – La dune contre l’atome (Erdeven 1975 – The Dune Against the Atom), I tell an emblematic struggle: that of the inhabitants of the southern Bretagne coast in 1975 against a nuclear power plant project. This mobilization made it possible to preserve an exceptional environment and resonates strongly with current ecological struggles. This documentary is also a return to my roots. I grew up on the Bretagne coast, and these landscapes shaped my sensibility and my commitment. Now living in the south of France, I remain deeply attached to this land, its memory, and the people who bring it to life.
