Women on Islands, Leaders of Sustainable Tourism

July 9th

10h – 11h15

Although islands represent only 5% of the Earth’s surface, they host 20% of terrestrial species, and 600 million people depend on their ecosystem services for sustainable development. Islands are exceptional territories not only for their natural wealth but also for their cultural richness. The vulnerability of these territories is matched only by their resilience, and they can be leaders and sources of inspiration for driving social and environmental change on a global scale. The project aims to encourage the emergence of more resilient, diversified, and time-spread tourism, with women playing an important role as key drivers. SMILO has funded pioneering pilot solutions on 4 small islands in Lastovo (Croatia), Kerkennah (Tunisia), Paros (Greece), and Brownsea (United Kingdom), promoting the leadership role of island women in sustainable tourism. Don’t miss this webinar on July 9, 2021, from 10:00 to 11:15 AM (France time), where you will discover the sustainable and innovative solutions from these four small islands. The island of Culatra (Portugal) will also join the conversation to share its experience in promoting sustainable tourism in its territory.
