The Mediterranean is currently the focus of widespread concern: it is warming faster than the global average, and faces plastic pollution, overfishing, and coastal development. Added to this are the spread of misinformation and a sense of “eco-fatigue” that fuels pessimism. Yet the Mediterranean is also: a global hotspot for biodiversity, a hub for international scientific cooperation, a region of ecological and social innovation, and a cultural heritage shared by more than 20 countries. The issue is therefore not only ecological but also one of communication: How can we shift from a narrative that fuels anxiety to one that inspires action one that is scientifically sound and socially engaging?
