The Mediterranean Islands Collective has brought together the most influential stakeholders in the protection of island areas to take action, based on the union of regional forces and experiences, in order to create a strategy that will serve as a foundation for actions beyond 2022. This project also foresees the implementation of various pilot actions on small islands, with the results contributing to the strategy. The IUCN, MedPAN, the Conservatoire du Littoral, the Marilles Foundation, and WWF Greece—organizations experienced in island conservation—will hold country-specific consultation sessions to adopt a bottom-up approach and ensure the production of a strategy deeply linked to on-the-ground realities and specific to each Mediterranean sub-region.
The MIC steering committee will enable this collective to identify the strategic priorities, develop an action plan, and present the first results of the project, which is the trigger for the initiative funded by the MAVA Foundation.
