Artifical marine habitats: opportunity reefs or impoverished biodiversity ?

April 7th

The artificialization of marine environments has altered habitat structure, trophic networks, and colonization dynamics. While some infrastructures act as artificial reefs that promote the settlement of species, they also lead to ecological simplification and biotic homogenization. This raises the question: does the biodiversity observed in artificial marine environments represent a functional gain for the ecosystem, or a diminished substitute for natural ecosystems?
